More Yard Work... and random thoughts...

This is the year for yard changes at our house. On a whim (sort of) I decided to rip out most of the bushes in the front of our house. I left a couple of rhododendrons, but gave them massive hair-cuts and ripped out most of the rest. PLUS, I ripped out enough vinca to cover the state of Montana - and we live in Maine, so you figure that one out. It was all wrapped around the bushes, and it’s huge, evil roots were choking out the roots of the bushes. I hate vinca – it is pretty, but EVIL. EVIL. My back is now suffering greatly – thank God for ibuprofen.

But now it’s all gone (the vinca, not the backache). Well, I’m sure there is a remnant, but when it rears its ugly head, I’ll pounce and rip it out too.

Now there is just dirt and a few skinny bushes in our front garden. I’ll put up pics later. I’m going to put in a couple of hydrangeas and maybe a few flowering perennials – and lots of mulch. No more ground cover. Did I mention I HATE vinca? LOL.

Yesterday was Molly’s half-day (13 and ½ years old) – we celebrate those (sort of) since the girls’ birthdays are so close to Christmas.

We have relatives coming in sometime today or tomorrow - yeah, it's THAT specific. So we’re trying to row with the flow.

By the way, I was just informed yesterday by my brilliant husband that it’s “Row with the flow” rather than “Roll with the flow.” I thought it meant to just hang on as the flow rolls you - - wherever - - but Todd says that you’re supposed to row, and just do it in the way that you’re going. Are we pathetic or what? All my confusion is probably thanks to growing up with parents with VERY southern accents who also just said things wrong sometimes. Oh, and just a few years ago I learned that the saying, “Tough row to hoe” is not “Tough road to hoe.” (What is it with me and the word, ROW?) I always thought it WOULD be very tough to hoe a road, so that worked for me, LOL.

The big news at our house this week - we bought a pick-up truck. Todd’s been wanting one for YEARS And YEARS. It’s an older GMC Sierra – he bought it from a friend at work. It’s dark blue and has a rack on the back with big search lights. It has giant mud tires, 4-wheel drive, and looks very macho. We love it! How does the country song go - - there's somethin' women like about a pick-up man. Yep, that's me. :)
