Summer Relaxation. Not.

So, every year, just after Christmas break, we start looking forward to summer vacation. I always try to plan school so that we're finished by the first of June. That way we'll have all of June, July and August for a break from the studies.

Yet, when summer arrives, or rather, when SPRING arrives, we start down this insane path of busy-ness that carries far into the summer. It usually starts with yard work and spring cleaning, but it carries over into getting rid of all the junk in the basement (that mysteriously reappears each year), painting rooms, taking day trips, and cleaning out someone's room so a relative can come for an overnight visit.

Over the weekend, I printed out a calendar of the entire summer on one page - today through the first week in September. Boy, was THAT depressing. It's so SMALL. And it's already so FULL!

Now, though we're only ONE day into our summer vacation (yeah, we got going late because we put off testing until last week), I'm feeling overwhelmed by the summer and all it has in store for us. It sort of makes me look forward to fall, so we can fall back into our comfortable school routine.

Did I just say that? Somebody slap me.
